Race Setup For Traxxas Slash 2WD

Setting up a Traxxas slash 2wd is not hard at all. You just need to choose the perfect elements for your car. And it will be ready to win any race.

Here are Traxxas slash 2wd setup tips for you.

Body

Traxxas slash 2WD comes up with a pre-made body and pre-painted. For racing, the body is not very important.

But make sure that the body is not very heavy. Heavy cars often tend to be slower. That’s why the material needs to be lightweight.

Receiver

Among the very few adjustable things of an RC car receiver is one. For transferring the command signals a receiver is a must.

For receivers, you can use an airtronics radio receiver. Usually, receivers come in a box. If the receiver is making your car too heavy, then unbox it.

After unboxing the receiver you can just put the sensors. This obviously reduces the extra weight of the bulky box.

If your Traxxas receiver is not binding, then look to solve the issue first.

Transponder

Transponders are also another essential element of RC cars. You can use a radio transmitter for this.

Specifically for slash cars, transmitters 6516 are best.

Battery

You must consider weight and run time while choosing a battery for your RC car. Firstly, the car needs to be lightweight. That helps the car to run at a high speed.

Secondly, you need to keep the run time in your mind. Considering both the points, we can choose a two-cell LiPo shorty 4.2 battery.

You might run out of charge. Get a charger. If your LiPo battery is not charging then you might need to fix it fast.

It will give you a pretty good run time of about 5-6 minutes. Even after that, you might find your battery being 50% used.

Chassis

A lightweight car always works well in the race. That’s why choose a material that is lightweight but strong for the chassis.

Aluminum alloys are very suitable for race setups. It is lightweight and also durable. It protects the car well and is wear-resistant.

But you should not try to crash your car in the race.

Motor

There are two types of motors that we use in engines. One is a brushed motor and another one is brushless. For your Traxxas Slash 2WD, you have to use a brushed motor.

Brushed motors are mechanically driven. And for RC cars, it is best to use brushed motors.

Usually, a Traxxas slash 2WD’s speed rises up to 30 m/h,which is a very good amount of speed for racing.

To achieve the high speed you can use the XL5 12-turn Titan motor. It might be a very common one. But it will definitely help your car to give the best performance.

Oil

Oil is very important when we are tuning our Traxxas slash 2WD. By tuning it means the tuning of the suspension.

For a race, it is best to use 30 wt silicone shock oil. It’s better not to use motor oils. Because silicone oils help the suspension to respond very well and quickly to the bumps.

You should put oil in all four corners. That will make your car a bit balanced. And while facing the bumps, it will land nicely on the ground.

Shock

Traxxas slash 2wd shock setup is very important for races. Because it reduces the damping that is caused by the springs. It helps the car to stay stable.

It also helps the car in cornering.

Controlling Rods

Controlling rods reside under the chassis. These are connected to the servo. Controlling rods should be at a fixed angle.

These rods must be at 90°. Because in a perfect right angle the left and right both can be steered perfectly.

Wheel Position

Position and alignment of the wheels are very important. Because it needs to be symmetrical as much as possible.

You can measure the difference using calipers. By that, you can get 100% perfection in the differences.

Also, there are two positions known as toe-in and toe-out. You can make your front wheels 1° toe in. That position is the best for Traxxas slash 2WD racing.

Weight balancing

Balancing the weight is a must for a car. Because the weight is not balanced well the car might easily fall or crash.

For balance, you can put the battery in the front and the motor in the back. Also, the servo is very heavy. So, the transponder or receiver should be balanced for that as well.

Basically, perfect weight distribution is a must for the stability of a car.

Holes In the Arms

You can face tracks that are full of bumps. In these kinds of tracks, the balance of the wheels is very important.

That’s why you might need to make holes in the arms. For that, you will get more shock absorption, which will make your wheels more adjustable on rough tracks.

Your car will land better. You will have a balanced absorption and get the best performance.

Things to Keep in Mind

Setting up a Traxxas slash 2WD car is very easy if you follow the steps. But there are a lot of things that you need to be aware of.

There are a lot of things that might have a great impact on the performance of your car.

  1. Do not use nickel-metal hydride batteries in your car. LiPo batteries are best for Traxxas slash 2WD considering both run time and weight.
  2. The lower the chassis is the better it is for your car. Traxxas slash 2wd ride height is an important thing.
  3. Your car must be as lightweight as possible. It will help your car to achieve maximum speed.
  4. Try not to crash your car. Your car might get slowed but always try to stay on the track in one piece.
